In the dreary dead of winter, a good start to the day means waking up in the dark and stumbling, much like a zombie, to work or class. Maybe you’ll have enough time remaining to grab a coffee, but odds are you won’t. Forget Dickens and his best of times; you’ve only ever heard of one time–it’s the worst, and it goes by the name of A Tale of Five Mornings. Sometimes you’ll wonder if things will ever improve but mostly you’ll try not to drool on the keyboard.
Those out there strong enough to keep their heads up will be happy to know that there is a light beyond the darkness. Enter Jessica Corraza and Patrick Morrissey, the winter-blues bashing duo collectively known as MANICANPARTY. Their mellowed-out manic pixie dream girl music will beam rays of sunshine directly into your brain. Jessica and Patrick met back home in Minnesota, but are now making music out of (say it with me now), Brooklyn! A proper EP is forthcoming, but the band has been kind enough to dangle a few musical gems to bedazzle us until the release.
In their latest gem, “Bow Through My Heart,” Jessica’s voice rings clear with some awfully dark and morbid lyrics. Namely, “I’m six feet underground, sitting high up on a cloud. You done left me with a bow through through my heart.” You might wonder if it’s strange for you to feel like joyously turning in circles, arms out, face upturned, to what is, ostensibly, a very sad song. (It’s not strange.)
And hearing their first single, “Rebels In the Light,” might indicate that ecstasy can be transmitted via the airwaves. (It can’t be.) Or maybe Jessica’s voice just glitters naturally and that makes it incredibly infectious. It shouldn’t matter; it doesn’t matter. Dubious readers can test out these claims for themselves. Pull up MP’s songs onSoundcloud and listen on your way home. Irritated thoughts about grey sludge complicating your homeward commute will all but vanish, vanquished by something that sounds like how you imagine walking on sunshine should feel.
This tandem is excellent and we should expect nothing less from their forthcoming EP, but some questions do remain. What kind of music is this? Indie doesn’t do it justice and they clearly explode out of the pop category. Could this be magic? Yes. What does their name even mean? Who knows. Only one thing is for certain: Regardless of the mystery surrounding their music, this duo’s secret formula is guaranteed to get the crowd moving.
Yes! Manicanparty released a song today titled Bow Through My Heart. And it’s lovely. Any new songs are greatly welcomed, as the relatively new duo from Brooklyn barely have any tracks out yet. They’re the ones I was incredibly amazed at the other day for racking up so many views on their videos on youtube so quickly. I mean, I already knew when I first heard them some time ago that they had HUGE potential and sounded wonderful, but it’s rare for indie or relatively new acts to blow up their view counts that rapidly regardless. Bow Through My Heart is a beautiful, Skylar Grey-like ballad.
